February 7, 2008. Today is the first day of the first Chinese lunar month in the Chineses lunar Calendar System. The exact new moon time is 11:44 AM in China Time Zone (same as Philippine Time zone) which is GMT +8. Year 2008 or the year of the Brown Earth Rat is the 4705th in the Chinese calendar. The Chinese believe that the first king of China was the Yellow King (he was not the first emperor of China). The Yellow King became king in 2697 B.C., therefore China will enter the 4705th year on February 4th, 2008. Also, the Chinese Year uses the cycle of 60 Stem-Branch counting systems and the Brown Rat is the 25th Stem-Branch in the 78th cycle. Since 4705 = (60 *78) + 25, therefore this Brown Rat Year is the 4705th Chinese Year. Some web sites say the year 2008 is the 4706th Chinese year. If you cannot find the explanation, here is a possible answer for you: The Yellow King's inauguration was held in the spring of 2697 B.C. But the day that was used as the first day of the year was the winter solstice, which was around December 23rd, 2698 B.C. Today's January 1st meant nothing to the Yellow King. If we count that extra eight days in 2698 B.C., then year 2008 is the 4706th Chinese year.

First there was a Rat

Attack the Clutterdom

You meet chaos as frequent as your daily mirror. You approve its dusting over your eat, sleep, work and play like a friend. You are too idle and feeble to evade or decline its presence as though it is a twin to you. Now weary. Now damp. Now busted. Singly, armed with gear fixer and trash sucker, you march down into its very heart. You just decided to attack the clutterdom.

When and Where to begin…

• to freshen the refrigerator?
• to shipshape the clothing locker?
• to dispose basement piles?
• to organize paper works?
• to resolve family issues?
• to clear social discord?
• to decide when to decide?

No delays in judgment, these questions primarily the latest gives life to the mortality of a procrastinator. As a self-disciplined procrastinator myself, I found the following Art-of-War-like elements of good use:

You have to know your self:

• You are a registered human being and not a stray rodent.
• You are welcomed to live in the harmonious world of order.
• You are expected to assist in maintaining environmental peace and equilibrium.
• You are obliged to keep order or fix things as soon as you are able.
• Often, you have to do this alone.

You have to know your enemy:

• Disorder thrives disorderly longer than human history.
• It occurred then and now, here and there, with and without reason.
• It falls under classifications of reality and unreality.
• It is irritating. It is disabling. It can kill!
• Often, it can be fixed!

You have to attack the enemy:

• Classify the enemy: eg. small or BIG, singly or allied, priority or waste, morbid or mortal.
• Start with the first thing you see and that you can easily handle. It is obviously easier to clear out small real trash than valuable antiques.
• Cut enemies into small groups and handle one at a time. Example: Reviewing paper works arranged first in categorized folders by subject instead of reviewing the whole mountain pile of it.
• Jot down a “task list” for a day or week (if solving is not really feasible for the moment). Plan in advance to limit the cost of time and energy in reacting to them. Also arrange the information you need before hand.
• Check your progress. Settle urgent cases earlier than the rest. Recognize available place (or person) to utilize. You simply have to recognize and occupy opportunity, not try to create them.
• Explore the use of creativity and timing to build your combat momentum.
• Learn to adapt to every situation. Focuses on the need for flexibility in your responses. It explains how to respond to shifting circumstances successfully.

When...

There is no exact time, there are just proper timings.

To answer “when...” is a pledge to time, be a genuine commitment of a mover, be an obligate speculation of a procrastinator. As a procrastinator trying to waste less time as possible, I learned the finest approach to consume time is to savor it as an opportunity. A brilliant way to lick opportunity is by occupying it. My accurate idea of occupying opportunity is to initiate it now with chest pin and adjust later with vista master card. Haha!

Chest Pin
This device harnesses “goal-time” to a luxurious space in your heart. As a personal observation, I inclined to slide off goals I scrutinized as tough labor and anticipate those I found a treat. To correct, in place of judging how hard a goal is, and how long it will take, I just start it and enjoy. Isn't it true that once you clothe to your operational outfit, however formal or informal it is, and step out of your door you most likely advance to your workplace however far it may seem? On the other hand, short-term goals are pleasurable to undertake and makes procrastination easier to defeat as goals are nearly accomplished before anyone decides to procrastinate.
